Venetian Micro-Mosaic Table Mirror, Late 19th Century

Category:

Description

A fine antique Italian micro-mosaic tabletop mirror, likely produced in Venice in the late 19th century. The shaped wooden frame is richly decorated with hand-set micro-mosaic floral garlands composed of tiny colored tesserae, depicting roses and wildflowers in delicate naturalistic detail.
The oval mirror plate is set within a warm-toned wooden surround, and the reverse retains its original easel support, allowing the piece to stand as a dressing table mirror. Micro-mosaic work of this type was highly prized during the Victorian period, reflecting the long tradition of Venetian craftsmanship and decorative arts.
